Russia sees 6,391 new Covid-19 cases, for first time since early May, 42 related deaths in past day - HQ

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russia has recorded 6,391 new cases of Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, 700 more than on the previous day, while almost 1,200 people diagnosed with coronavirus have been hospitalized and 42 have died, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"As of July 21, Russia has identified 6,391 new cases of Covid-19. The number of daily hospitalizations stood at 1,196 people, having increased by 7.7% compared to the previous day," the headquarters said.

The number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations grew in 37, decreased in 37, and remained the same in 11 constituent territories of Russia, it said.

The headquarters reported 42 Covid-related fatalities over the past day, and 37 on Wednesday.

Compared to the previous day, when Russia saw 5,685 Covid-19 cases, the number of new infections has grown by 706, topping 6,000 new cases in one day for the first time since early May and approaching the highest daily numbers of around 7,000 new infections per day, which were recorded in late April.

"As many as 4,529 people have recovered over the past 24 hours, or 4.9% more than on July 20," it said.

Russia has recorded a total of 18,511,120 cases of Covid-19, 382,039 related deaths, and 17,924,372 recoveries since the onset of the pandemic.
