Russia sees 5,685 new Covid-19 cases, for first time since May, 37 related deaths in past day - HQ

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Russia has recorded 5,685 new cases of Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, nearly 1,500 more than on the previous day, while over 1,100 people diagnosed with coronavirus have been hospitalized and 37 have died, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"As of July 20, Russia has identified 5,685 new cases of Covid-19. The number of daily hospitalizations stood at 1,110 people, having declined by 17% compared to the previous day," the headquarters said.

The number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations grew in 26, decreased in 48, and remained the same in 11 constituent territories of Russia, it said.

The headquarters reported 37 Covid-related fatalities over the past day, and 44 on Tuesday.

Compared to the previous day, when Russia saw 4,200 Covid-19 cases, the number of new infections has grown by 1,485, topping 5,000 new cases in one day for the first time since May and approaching the highest daily numbers of over 5,500 new infections per day, which were recorded in early May.

"As many as 4,317 people have recovered over the past 24 hours, or 3.1% more than on July 19," it said.

Russia has recorded a total of 18,504,729 cases of Covid-19, 381,997 related deaths, and 17,919,843 recoveries since the onset of the pandemic.
