Russian regions should re-launch local Covid prevention efforts - Roszdravnadzor

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russian regions should restart local headquarters tasked with containing the spread of the coronavirus amid a surge in cases across the country, the head of the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor), Alla Samoilova, said on Tuesday.

"Currently nationwide, there is a rise in coronavirus infections but not all regions have been taking measures to curb the spread of Covid-19. In view of this, the constituent regions of the Russian Federation should renew the operations of their regional headquarters to prevent the spread of infections, intensify public vaccinations and organize an awareness campaign on the need for vaccinations," Samoilova was quoted by the Roszdravnadzor press service as saying at a meeting with the agency's area branches on Tuesday.

She asked them to check, jointly with local authorities, the availability of anti-Covid medications and Personal Protection Equipment and to ensure the necessary number of vaccination offices.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) reported a rise in infections against the backdrop of the spread of new sub-variants of the Omicron strain.
