EU to impose sanctions on 47 individuals, including Moscow Mayor Sobyanin, Rostec head Chemezov - media

BRUSSELS. July 19 (Interfax) - The new sanctions lists being drawn up by the European Union will include 47 individuals, including Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Rostec head Sergei Chemezov, as well as eight legal entities, the EUobserver, a publication close to EU institutions, reported on Tuesday, citing its own information.

Most of the new restrictions will affect Russian politicians and military commanders, the article noted. According to the publication, the sanctions will also be imposed on actors Sergei Bezrukov and Vladimir Mashkov and some relatives of businessmen, who were sanctioned earlier.

Additionally, the EU plans to impose sanctions on the Night Wolves biker club and its president Alexander Zaldostanov.

The EUobserver also noted that the new measures are expected to toughen restrictive measures against Sberbank, as well as, as previously reported, impose a ban on import of gold from Russia.

At the same time, according to the publication, the previous EU measures will be adjusted to ensure that there are no obstacles to the transportation of food from Russia to the countries at risk of famine. Meanwhile, the EU pledged that the previously imposed measures, in fact, were not aimed at restricting such supplies.

According to Brussels, the adjustments will also resolve problems in the supply of medical and pharmaceutical goods.

The article also said that the EU plans to introduce some exceptions to the sanctions to "avoid disruptions in the payments channels for agricultural products."
