Peskov on U.S. basketball player Griner's situation: We never discuss prisoner swaps
MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - The Kremlin never discusses details of prisoner exchanges, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in commenting on American basketball player Brittney Griner's situation, who is standing trial in Russia on a count of smuggling illegal drugs.
"We never discuss aspects of swaps," Peskov told journalists, when asked whether "the Kremlin would like to swap her [Griner]."
Asked whether a possible swap now looks more problematic as "the relationship between Russia and the U.S. has worsened after the start of the special military operation," Peskov replied, "The relationship has worsened indeed."
