Quadra halts operations of Smolensk CHPP-2 after incident with turbine

SMOLENSK. July 14 (Interfax) - Specialists at the Smolensk branch of PJSC Quadra Power Generation are looking into the reasons for the emergency shutdown of a turbine at Smolensk CHPP-2, the branch said on its official VKontakte group page.

"We are currently looking into the reasons. There is no fire at the station," according to the statement.

Local residents on social networks have been talking about seeing puffs of smoke forming a cloud of steam that has formed during the technical operating process.

Smolensk CHPP-2 was completely shut down following the incident, and work is underway to restore energy supplies to consumers, Quadra's press service has clarified to Interfax.

There are three turbines overall functioning at Smolensk CHPP-2.
