Polymetal launches conveyor system for transporting ore at Mayskoye

ANADYR. July 13 (Interfax) - Polymetal has begun pre-commissioning operations on an underground ore-extraction conveyor at the Mayskoye deposit in Chukotka, the press service of the governor's office and the government of the region reported.

Polymetal CEO Vitaly Nesis and Chukotka Autonomous District Governor Roman Kopin, who visited the Mayskoye deposit on Tuesday, launched operations.

The Russian silver and gold miner is currently mining ore at deep levels, where special equipment delivers it to the surface from over 5 km underground.

"The Mayskoye deposit is one of Polymetal's longest-term underground projects. Therefore, it is reasonable that a rather capital-intensive investment has been made in the important facility," Nesis was quoted as saying in the statement.

Nesis said that all technical operating conditions would be worked out during commissioning, design productivity would be achieved, and safety and the possibility to control the system automatically would be confirmed.
