Ukrainian govt drafting bills on comprehensive exam for applicants for Ukrainian citizenship - PM Shmyhal

MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government is drafting bills to introduce a comprehensive exam for applicants for the Ukrainian citizenship, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

The government approved the respective protocol directive at a meeting on Tuesday in furtherance of the presidential order, Ukrainian media outlets said.

"The Justice Ministry and the Interior Ministry are tasked with drafting the bills and presenting them for consideration by the government. Meanwhile, the Education and Science Ministry, working together with the National Commission on the Standards of the State Language is tasked with developing and approving programs for the exam to verify the knowledge of the state language, the history of Ukraine and fundamentals of the Ukrainian constitution," Shmyhal said on social media.

Nowadays, Ukrainian citizenship is a privilege and everyone aspiring for it needs to know and understand the country's fundamentals, he said.
