Russian govt earmarks 95 bln rubles for Sfera satellite project - Roscosmos

MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - The Russian government has approved the building of the Sfera satellite system and earmarked 95 billion rubles for the project, Roscosmos First Deputy CEO Yury Urlichich said.

"The Russian government approved the Sfera federal project with a 95-billion-ruble budget on April 6, 2022," Urlichich's presentation at the Strong Russia 2022 summit says.

On April 7, Director of the Roscosmos Department for Advanced Programs and the Sfera Project Sergei Prokhorov said that the Russian government approved the Sfera federal project, which stipulates the deployment of a multi-satellite cluster into orbit.

According to the plans, the system will combine the GLONASS satellite navigation system, Earth remote sensing satellite systems, the Express-RV Multifunctional Satellite Communication System, the Gonets Satellite System, and several other communications systems that also provide Internet connections.

On November 26, 2021, Roscosmos Executive Director for Advanced Programs and Science Alexander Bloshenko said that the company had started implementing the Sfera program.
