UN-Habitat program to join creating updated general plan of Kharkiv

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - An agreement was reached at the international conference on the recovery of Ukraine in Lugano, Switzerland, on the United States and Turkey's becoming partners in the post-crisis restoration of Kharkiv, city Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

"Kharkiv was represented at the conference in Switzerland's Lugano. As a result, I can say that the U.S. and Turkey will be our partners in the restoration of Kharkiv. It encourages optimism and confidence in a prompt restoration of the city," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Terekhov as saying in a video address on his social networks.

Additionally, an agreement on the participation of a special mission of the United Nations-Habitat program in drafting Kharkiv's general plan was reached, he said.

"In addition, following the conference, a special mission of UN-Habitat will join the effort in drafting an updated general plan for Kharkiv, which Lord [Norman] Foster and a group of our architects are currently working on. The UN-Habitat mission will assess the damage, create a 3D model of Kharkiv and its realistic model for investors" Terekhov said.

Talks with the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine on support of Kharkiv in various sectors, including heat power and an upgrade of transportation, also took place, he said.
