Ban on sanctioned goods' exports to, imports from Russia takes effect in Estonia

TALLINN. July 11 (Interfax) - A ban on sanctioned goods' exports to and imports from Russia takes effect in Estonia on Monday, including for individuals.

"The ban derives from the EU sanctions," the Estonian Tax and Customs Board said.

The published long list of prohibited goods includes spirits such as vodka, gin, liqueurs, and others, as well as old and new furniture and parts thereof, wood and wooden products, new pneumatic tires, cement, caviar, new or used containers such as glass bottles and jars, etc.

It is prohibited to import from Russia cash in the amounts larger than necessary for a trip, household electronic products with a value exceeding 750 euros (smartphones, laptops, etc.) and other things with a value exceeding 300 euros. The restrictions do not apply to personal belongings, such as a personal smart phone, an expensive bag, clothes, etc.

The Tax and Customs Board asked the population to take the ban seriously and thoroughly consider what they buy in Russia or carry on a trip to Russia in order to avoid further problems.

The Board noted that a breach of international sanctions by individuals is punishable with a fine or up to five years of imprisonment. A similar violation committed by a legal entity is penalized with a fine.
