USAID project to ensure fast procurement of equipment for Ukraine Energy Support Fund - Ukrainian Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Energy Ministry, the Secretariat of the Energy Community and the Energy Security Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have signed a memorandum of understanding denoting the USAID project as an independent procurement agency for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, Ukrainian media outlets said citing the website of the Energy Ministry on Friday.

Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov, Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community Artur Lorkowski, and USAID Energy Officer in Ukraine Ashley King attended the signing ceremony.

"Cooperation as part of the memorandum aims to ensure fast procurement of equipment for the prompt resumption of power supply in order to pass the heating season steadily, as well as materials and equipment for repairs of critical infrastructure needed in the medium and long term," the ministry said.

Repairs need to be carried out as soon as possible to ensure a stable heating season, Demchenkov said. In this light, the joint effort of the Energy Ministry, the Secretariat of the Energy Community and the USAID Energy Security Project will facilitate prompt deliveries of high-quality equipment to restore damaged critical infrastructure.

The Energy Community created the Ukraine Energy Support Fund with support of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

Consolidated assets of the fund's donors are being directed towards restoring energy infrastructure.

As reported, as of July 8, 2022, Ukraine received 40 containers and 35 trucks with electrical equipment with coordination support of the Secretariat of the Energy Community.
