Ukraine harvests its first million tonnes of grain - Ministry of Agrarian Policy

MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have harvested 1.1 million tonnes of winter grain and leguminous crops by July 8, including 806 tonnes on July 1-8, from the total area of 417,300 hectares (including 285,800 hectares in the past week), Ukrainian media outlets said, quoting the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday.

It was specified that Ukraine harvested a total of 717,800 tonnes of winter barley (including 469,400 tonnes in the past week) from 254,300 hectares (up by 148,300 hectares); 355,800 tonnes of winter wheat (up by 316,400 tonnes) from 147,900 hectares (up by 126,100 hectares) and 24,600 tonnes of peas (up by 22,650) from 15,100 hectares (up by 11,300 hectares) were harvested.

Therefore, the average yield of winter barley was 28.2 centners per hectare, winter wheat 24.1 centners/ha, and peas - 16.2 centners/ha.

In addition, farmers of eight Ukrainian regions have started gathering seeds of winter rapeseed and collected a total of 67,300 tonnes, including 65,900 tonnes in the past week, from 43,500 hectares (up by 42,500 hectares in the past week).

As reported, in 2021, Ukraine harvested an all-time high of grain, leguminous and oilseed crops of 106 million tonnes comprising of 84 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and 22.6 million tonnes of oilseeds.

Ukraine harvested a total of 32.4 million tonnes of wheat, 40 million tonnes of corn, ten million tonnes of barley, 581,500 tonnes of peas, 191,000 tonnes of millet, and 110,000 tonnes of buckwheat in 2021. A total of 16.3 million tonnes of sunflower, 3.4 million tonnes of soybean, and 2.9 million tonnes of rapeseed were harversted.
