Azerbaijan to supply 2.55 bcm of gas to Turkey through contract with BOTAS in 2022

BAKU. July 8 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan will supply 2.55 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey in 2022 based on a current contract with BOTAS, according to State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) materials seen by Interfax.

"A new agreement on the purchase and sale of gas was signed between Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company and Turkey's BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation on September 30, 2021 within the framework of Stage 1 of Shah Deniz [gas field development; the previous contract expired on April 16, 2021]. The volume of Stage 1 gas supplies to Turkey within the framework of the contract was stipulated at 0.64 bcm up to the end of 2021. The supply volume is stipulated at 2.55 bcm in 2022," the materials say.

According to SOCAR, contract supplies should reach 3.7 bcm per year at their height.

The new agreement envisages the transport of approximately 11 bcm of gas to Turkey from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the end of 2024. Supplies began on October 1, 2021.

Azerbaijan exported a total of 8.82 bcm of gas to Turkey from the Shah Deniz field in 2021, down 22.7% compared to 2020. Supplies are carried out within the framework of Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the development of the Shah Deniz field.
