Tokayev orders that Kazakh seaports turn into major Caspian Sea hub

NUR-SULTAN. July 7 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has tasked the government with turning Kazakh seaports into a major Caspian Sea hub.

"Kazakhstan has never been a sea power and has never used the opportunity of marine transportation to the fullest extent for that reason. Times are different now. I set a strategic task for the government: transform our ports and turn them into a leading hub in the Caspian Sea," Tokayev said at a meeting on the development of transport and transit potential.

"Conceptually, I agree that we will need to strengthen the fleet and to establish a container hub in the Aktau port," a statement published on the presidential website quoted Tokayev as saying.
