Kremlin sees Japanese PM's proposal on limiting Russian export oil price as questionable

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - The Kremlin doubts the practical implementation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's idea to limit the export price for Russian oil, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"We've spoken about Mr. Kishida's initiative. Moreover, we have said that this is nothing more than a declared initiative. No consolidated decisions have been made in this regard, and frankly speaking, it's a big question whether decisions like this can be made," Peskov told journalists on Wednesday, when asked to comment on Kishida's proposal.

Asked whether Japanese shareholders of the Sakhalin-2 project might face any consequences in the wake of Kishida's proposal, Peskov replied, "I can't answer for now."

He was also asked to comment on Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev's post in reply to the Japanese prime minister's proposal on capping the export price of Russian oil.

"Japan has assumed an extremely unfriendly position toward Russia. And in any case, this extremely unfriendly position is absolutely not conducive to the development of trade-economic relations, which also include an energy dialogue," Peskov said.
