President of Sri Lanka asks Putin to help with loans for fuel procurement, resume Aeroflot flights

NEW DELHI. July 6 (Interfax) - Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone and asked him to help with loans for fuel procurement and resume Aeroflot flights to Sri Lanka.

"Had a very productive telecon with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. While thanking him for all the support extended by his government to overcome challenges in the past, I requested an offer of credit support to import fuel to Sri Lanka to overcome current economic challenges," Rajapaksa said on Twitter.

He also asked Putin to resume Aeroflot flights to Sri Lanka.

According to Rajapaksa, they agreed to step up bilateral cooperation in tourism, trade and culture.
