Kremlin favors diplomatic solution to Norway's blocking food supply to Russians stationed on Spitsbergen

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has expressed hope for a diplomatic solution to the problem of Norway's blocking the food supply to the Russians stationed on Spitsbergen but said he does not rule out various scenarios.

"Naturally, all possible scenarios are being considered, as the situation is highly complicated. There is no official stance here, hopefully, the problem will be finally settled through dialogue," Peskov said at a press briefing on Wednesday in response to a relevant question.

As for State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin tasking the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee with looking into the Russian-Norwegian maritime border treaty, Peskov said, "As far as we can tell, the parliament plans to look into the issue and to formulate a stance."

Volodin has ordered that the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee consider the possible denouncement of the Treaty between Norway and the Russian Federation concerning Maritime Delimitation and Cooperation in the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean.
