Japan allots $17 mln to UN for solving Ukraine grain problem

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Tuesday it had received $17 million from Japan for storing Ukrainian grain and enlarging exports, Ukrainian media outlets said with the reference to The Guardian.

The FAO said that the money would be spent on plastic and modular containers to store grain harvested in July and August.

Ukrainian farmers are feeding themselves and millions of people worldwide, a FAO representative said.

A guarantee of their ability to continue to produce, safely store and access other markets is crucial for the enhancement of good security in Ukraine; it is also important that importers get the grain at an affordable price, he said.
