Aeroflot plans to open new hubs in regions, preparing for operating new types of aircraft

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Aeroflot plans to open new air hubs in the regions, the airline's CEO, Sergei Aleksandrovsky, said at the close of the board meeting of the Russian Transport Ministry on Friday.

"In the area of regional transportation, we plan to expand our program further in order to create new bases, meaning that we will expand the programs of regional bases, except for Krasnoyarsk and Sochi," Aleksandrovsky said.

Aeroflot's main hub is based at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, and the company is also developing hubs at the airports in Krasnoyarsk and Sochi.

According to Aleksandrovsky, the airline's other task by 2024 is preparatory work for launching the operation of new types of aircraft, specifically the SSJ New, MC-21 and TU-214. "We have a large and complicated job ahead of us," Aleksandrovsky said.
