Ukrainian borscht cooking culture added to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List - Ukrainian minister

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized the culture of cooking Ukrainian borscht, a beetroot soup, as an element of Ukrainian Intangible Cultural Heritage and placed it on its Intangible Cultural Heritage List, Ukrainian media have reported referring to Culture and Information Policy Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko.

"At its 5th extraordinary session today, on July 1, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, in response to the Culture and Information Policy Ministry's appeal, added Ukrainian borscht cooking culture to the Intangible Cultural Heritage List as an element that needs to be immediately safeguarded," Tkachenko wrote on social media.

Ukraine will be happy to share borscht and its recipe with others, Tkachenko said.
