Russian Foreign Ministry to consider closure of embassy to Bulgaria - Peskov

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry will consider the possibility of closing down the Russian embassy to Bulgaria, and if necessary, a report will be submitted to the president, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova had earlier made a statement on the embassy's social media account, in which she said the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry had ignored Russia's address.

"In connection with this, we intend to immediately bring up the question of closing the Russian embassy to Bulgaria, which would inevitably entail the closure of the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in Moscow," Mitrofanova wrote in her post.

She said she would bring the matter up with the Russian leadership.

Asked by Interfax whether the Kremlin has received any relevant report from Mitrofanova and whether it is planning to consider one, Peskov replied, "The Foreign Ministry will consider [the matter], and if necessary, a report will be presented to the president."
