Russia still interested in railway project in Kalimantan

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Russia is still interested in the railway project in Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo.

"There are good prospects for business contacts for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure. Specifically, RZD [Russian Railways] could join the implementation of the massive initiative of Indonesia's leadership to move the country's capital to the island of Kalimantan. The Russian capital Moscow, which has demonstrated very good rates and quality in its own development, could also take [part] in this certainly massive work," President Vladimir Putin said Thursday after Russian-Indonesian negotiations.

The transport ministries of Russia and Indonesia agreed in 2018 to prepare a roadmap for joint transport projects, one of which involved building a railway and associated infrastructure in Kalimantan.
