Zelensky expecting EU to approve Ukraine's candidate status
MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is expecting a EU summit due in Brussels, Belgium, on June 23-24, to approve Ukraine's candidate status.
"I am grateful to everyone supporting Ukraine. Thank you, Amsterdam, for your sincerity. I am looking forward to an affirmative European decision on Ukraine," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Zelensky as saying in a charity marathon in support of Ukraine that took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Tuesday.
The EU will be making a very important decision on the candidate status of Ukraine in a few days, Zelensky said. "I believe none of you has any doubts that this decision should be affirmative. Ukraine deserves this," he said.
