Eurasian Economic Commission extends Kazakh quotas for white sugar, raw sugar duty-free imports until Oct 31

ALMATY. June 21 (Interfax) - The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at an extraordinary meeting extended Kazakhstan's quotas for duty-free imports of white sugar and raw sugar until October 31, 2022, the press office of the Kazakh Trade and Integration Ministry said.

Previously the quotas were due to be in effect until August 31 this year.

Kazakhstan is negotiating in order to increase its quotas for duty-free imports of white and raw sugar. Currently Kazakhstan's quotas amount to 350,000 tonnes.

Kazakhstan's sugar production amounted to 276,900 tonnes in 2021, up 90% from 2020. A total of 506,900 tonnes of sugar and raw sugar were imported to Kazakhstan in 2021, including 275,800 tonnes from Russia, down 12.7% from a year earlier, 164,600 tonnes from Brazil, 35,500 tonnes from Belarus and 30,400 tonnes from Mexico.
