Ukrainian govt permits surprise checks to verify compliance with Ukraine's int'l commitments

MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has enlarged the list of grounds for unscheduled state oversight measures during the period of martial law in the country, permitting inspections to verify compliance with Ukraine's international commitments.

The government's June 17 Directive No. 697 is available for viewing on the governmental website, the Ukrainian media said.

However, such inspections will continue to be conducted based solely on the decision of the central authority in charge of forming state policy in the field in question, according to the document.

Before the Ukrainian government issued this directive, the only reason for carrying out a surprise inspection was "the presence of a threat exerting a substantial negative impact on people's rights, legal interests, life, and heath, environmental protection, and efforts to ensure the state's security."
