Rosatom ready to invoke int'l law over termination of Finnish NPP contract

ST. PETERSBURG. June 17 (Interfax) - Rosatom plans to invoke contract mechanisms and international law over the termination of the contract for to build the Hanhikivi nuclear power plant in Finland, the Russian state nuclear corporation's chief, Alexei Likhachev, said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We'll not leave this unattended, we'll make use of all contractual obligations for resolving disputes, as well as relevant international law," he said.

Likhachev also said the ITER project in France "cannot be carried out" without Russia.

As for the NPP project in Hungary, he said current licenses at the site had been obtained. "There's no bad news apart from the usual difficulties," he said. Likhachev said the Hungarian authorities wanted to carry the project out perhaps even earlier than stated by the contract.
