WHO: 33% of world's population haven't yet received even one dose of Covid-19 vaccine
ST. PETERSBURG. June 16 (Interfax) - A third of the world's population has not received even one dose of a coronavirus vaccine thus far, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Henri Kluge said.
Today, 1.5 years since the start of vaccination for Covid-19, 33% of the world's population have not yet received even one dose of the vaccine, Kluge said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday.
More than 500 million people worldwide and over 90 million people in Russia have been vaccinated with the Russian two-component Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V, he said.
The development of the Sputnik V vaccine, which has been authorized for use in more than 70 countries, demonstrates not only Russia's vast experience in developing vaccines, but also points to the possibility of involving Russian science and production in efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.
