Europe interested in larger gas supply from Azerbaijan - Aliyev

BAKU. June 16 (Interfax) - There is a growing demand for energy supply from Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"The situation in Europe has changed drastically. The demand for energy supply from Azerbaijan has been growing, and we are doing our best to meet such demand," Aliyev said at the Global Baku Forum on Thursday.

A number of European countries have contacted Azerbaijan in regard to gas supply, Aliyev said. "This is not so easy, as we would need to increase gas production. We are cooperating with the European Commission in this area," he said.

Aliyev said earlier that Azerbaijan exported 22 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2021, and exports would reach 24 bcm, including more than 10 bcm of gas to be supplied to Europe, in 2022.

Currently, Georgia, Turkey, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria are buying gas from Azerbaijan.
