Rosatom in talks with USC, other partners to build another six floating nuclear generating units

ST. PETERSBURG/MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - Rosatom Group is discussing the construction of another six floating nuclear generating units with United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and other partners, the Russian state nuclear corporation's deputy CEO and Northern Sea Route director, Vyacheslav Ruksha told reporters at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We have a signed firm contract for the construction of four floating generating units. We are fulfilling it, only there is a slight adjustment time-wise. And we're actively discussing the issue of building another six with USC and other possible partners," Ruksha said.

In the fall of 2021, Rosatom subsidiary Atomflot and GDK Baimskaya, a division of KAZ Minerals, signed a preliminary agreement for the delivery of power for the operations of the Baimsky mining and processing plant as part of a comprehensive plan to develop the Baimskaya Ore Zone in Chukotka.

Atomflot will deliver four modernized floating generating units with installed capacity of at least 106 MW each, with the first two units scheduled to go into operation near Nagleinyn Cape by the start of 2027, the third by the start of 2028 and the fourth by the start of 2031. Overall investment in the power supply project is expected to exceed 150 billion rubles.
