Almaty CHPP-2 conversion to gas could cost 324 bln tenge - minister
NUR-SULTAN. June 13 (Interfax) - Converting the Almaty CHPP-2 combined heat and power plant from coal to gas will cost 324 billion tenge, Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said.
"The full coal-to-gas conversion of the Almaty CHPP-2 is scheduled for completion in 2026. The first 200MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine or CCGT financed by Samruk-Kazyna will be put into operation by the end of 2023. The cost of the project, based on the government estimates is 324 billion tenge," Akchulakov said at an Almaty community meeting on Saturday.
Samruk-Kazyna also plans to expand CHPP-1 and CHPP-3 by building a 250 MW CCGT and 450 MW CCGT. "A feasibility study for the modernization of Almaty CHPP-3 is currently being drafted," the minister said.
President Tokayev urged the government to speed up the CHPP-2 project in Almaty at the end of May.
