Zaporizhzhya NPP restores remote data transfer to IAEA after 10-day interruption

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has restored the remote transmission of its vital safeguards data to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters after a technical interruption since May 30, 2022.

"Thanks to the joint efforts undertaken by the Energoatom national nuclear energy company and the Vodafone company, connection between the nuclear safeguards data servers of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and the IAEA resumed on Friday, June 10, 2022," Energoatom said on Telegram on Saturday.

All data for this period were reliably preserved on the Zaporizhzhya NPP's protected servers and were transferred to the IAEA, which confirmed receiving them, as soon as the transmission process was restored, it said.

As reported, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, speaking on June 6 at the opening of the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, called on the Board to support his efforts to arrange a visit to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, adding that he also needs the United Nation's support in this matter.

Grossi cited the interruption of safeguards data transmission from the Zaporizhzhya NPP among the key reasons for such a visit, adding that he has an invitation from Ukraine.

Energoatom, in turn, said that the Ukraine has not invited Grossi to visit the Zaporizhzhya NPP. Ukraine earlier rejected Grossi's requests for such a trip, saying that a visit to the Zaporizhzhya NPP would become possible only after control over the facility was returned to Ukraine.

The IAEA has sent three expert missions to Ukraine after February 24 - one to the South Ukraine NPP and two to the Chernobyl NPP.
