BAKU. June 9 (Interfax) - Russian energy companies are interested in the implementation of projects for construction of a wind farm in the Lachin and Kalbajar districts of Azerbaijan (East Zangezur economic region).

"The issue of expansion of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia was discussed back in April [April 26, 2022] in Baku during a meeting of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation," Azerbaijan's government told Interfax Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, Russian companies including PJSC Inter RAO , PJSC RusHydro and several others expressed their interest and readiness in participating in projects for construction and modernization of energy facilities (TPP / HPP / RES) in Azerbaijan, a government source said.

"In particular, we are talking about projects for construction of a wind farm with capacity of 100 MW in the Lachin and Kalbajar regions and a small HPP with capacity of 20 MW on the Terter river, including design and engineering consulting," he said.

Furthermore, the Azerbaijani side expressed readiness to send the Russian Energy Ministry a list of potential projects for joint implementation in Azerbaijan in the field of hydropower, as well as proposals for possible participation by RusHydro's design and engineering institutes in the creation of hydrotechnical and infrastructure facilities in the country.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev said previously that the potential of East Zangezur and Karabakh (border with Armenia) for production of solar and wind energy is estimated at 9,000-10,000 MW.
