Yerevan notes progress in unblocking transport, economic links with Azerbaijan

YEREVAN. June 9 (Interfax) - There is progress in unblocking regional transport and economic communications with Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.

"We see some positive progress in the process of unblocking regional economic communications. There is positive progress," Mirzoyan said at a press conference following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Yerevan on Thursday.

All roads that will be opened remain under the jurisdiction of the countries they run through, he said. "We are not talking about corridors, and this approach is accepted by all countries," Mirzoyan said.

The first step towards talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a meeting of the commission on delimitation and security of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, he said.

"Of course, we don't see eye-to-eye on all issues, but that's what talks are for, to make mutual concessions. We believe in the peace process. We also believe it is impossible not to discuss the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in this process, and we believe that talks should take place in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group. It's the only format for peaceful conflict settlement," Mirzoyan said.
