Ukrainian PM thanks European Parliament for support

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has thanked European Parliament President Robert Metsola and the European Parliament as a whole for their recommendation to grant EU candidate country status to Ukraine.

"The European Parliament recommended granting EU candidate status for Ukraine! Deputies approved the resolution [...] Grateful to Robert Metsola and the European Parliament for solidarity with the Ukrainian people," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Shmyhal as saying on social media in the early hours of Thursday.

The European Parliament on Wednesday voted 438-65 with 94 abstentions to pass a resolution calling on the European Union to grant EU candidate country status to Ukraine.
