Ukrainian market of non-bank financial institutions shrinks by 5 actors in May - National Bank of Ukraine

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian market of non-bank financial institutions shrank by five actors to 1,659 in May, Ukrainian media outlets said with the reference to the National Bank of Ukraine's website on Tuesday.

No new actors emerged on the market, the regulator said, adding that the number of banks did not change and remained 69 as of that date.

Meanwhile, the number of non-life insurance companies dropped to 129 (from 132), while the number of life insurance companies remained unchanged, 13.

At the end of May, there were 63 insurance brokers (down from 64), 197 pawn shops, 893 finance companies (down from 894), 67 collection companies, and 187 credit unions (unchanged).

There are also 24 bank groups and 23 non-bank financial groups on the market.

According to the regulator, 37 national payment systems, including those state-run, and 16 international payment systems are available on the market.

In May, the National Bank received 110 registration and license applications from market actors. There were 81 applications from finance companies, pawn shops and lessors, 11 from insurance companies, and 18 from credit institutions (banks and credit unions), the report said.
