Russian Digital Development Ministry working on program for Internet coverage of all Russian railways
MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - The Russian Digital Development and Communications Ministry will present a program for Internet coverage over the entire railway infrastructure, Russian Digital Development and Communications Minister Maksut Shadayev said.
"We have reached an agreement with RZD, with Oleg Valentinovich Belozerov that we are now making a separate big program in collaboration with mobile communications operators, with RZD, on how we will cover railways, in what sequence and with what priorities. We will present this program in September 2022," Shadayev said in a report on the implementation of the Digital Economy national program in the Federation Council on Wednesday.
The program covers a period of five to seven years, he said.
Access to the railway infrastructure is complicated because it is subject to its own regulations, Shadayev said. "Therefore, operators sometimes don't always find it easy to do, even when they are ready to install their own base stations," he said.
