Japan to increase soft loan to Ukraine by $500 mln - Finance Ministry

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has approved a draft of amendments to the agreement with Japan, which will increase a soft loan to Ukraine by approximately $500 million (65 billion yens) to $600 million with a 30-year grace period and a 1% annual interest, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry said on Friday after a government meeting.

"This is a matter of budgetary support to the stabilization and economic recovery in Ukraine, including the accommodation of primary social and humanitarian needs, public healthcare expenses and support to internally displaced persons," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

The funds will be available within a year since the date the loan agreement takes effect.

According to the ministry, Ukraine received 100 million (13 billion yens) under the agreement on May 24.
