Ukrzaliznytsia notes gradual growth in cargo traffic toward western border crossing poings

MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian national railway company Ukrzaliznytsia has noted gradual growth in cargo traffic toward European Union countries, Ukrzaliznytsia head Oleksandr Kamyshyn said.

"Our cargo traffics toward the western border crossing points are growing slightly, but this growth is not sufficient. Without opening our seaports, there'll be no significant growth in cargo traffic. We're now restricted by the capacity of European railways and European ports. It's hard for them to receive [Ukrainian cargo], reload it, and dispatch it further on," Kamyshyn told Ukrainian journalists in Kyiv on Thursday.

Ukrzaliznytsia itself has no problems with increasing the volume of cargo transported, as it earlier transported significantly larger amounts toward Ukrainian seaports, he said.

"For the time being, growth in cargo traffic toward western border crossing points in tonnes will be under 10%-20% month-on-month. We don't see so far how we can increase it more substantially on our own. For this to happen, Europe should be ready to receive our volume of cargo," Kamyshyn said.
