Reopening Khmelnytskyi NPP- Rzeszow power line to help Ukraine earn over 1 bln euros annually - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax) - Putting the power line linking the Khmelnytskiy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Ukraine and Poland's Rzeszow will help boost cross-border electricity trade between the two countries and will allow Ukraine to earn more than one billion euros annually, the Ukrainian media said, citing the Ukrenergo national energy company of Ukraine.

An agreement to revive this power line between the two countries is contained in an intergovernmental memorandum on enhancing energy cooperation, which was signed by Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and Polish Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa in Kyiv, the company said on Telegram on Wednesday.

The reopening of this power line will potentially allow Ukraine to boost electricity exports to Poland to 1GW, Halushchenko said, according to the Energy Ministry's press release.

The parties agreed to put a 400kW power line from Ukraine to Poland into operation in the near future, the Energy Ministry said.

Poland has become the first country to resume Ukrainian electricity imports following the synchronization of Ukraine's power grid with ENTSO-E, Ukrenergo said. Moskwa, in turn, said that Poland is directly interested in increasing electricity imports from Ukraine.

Furthermore, the Polish government has actively been working to further develop the two countries' relations in energy and is involved in joint energy projects, Ukrenergo said, adding that the company productively cooperates with the Polish grid operator PSE in projects that help promote Ukraine's integration with ENTSO-E.

Ukrainian electricity exports to Poland resumed in late March. They are handled by Ukraine's PJSC DTEK Zahidenergo company mostly at the capacity of 210MW per hour.
