Energoatom takes out 1.5 bln hryvnia loan from Ukrgasbank to buy Westinghouse fuel

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Ukraine's state-owned nuclear power generating company Energoatom has taken out a 1.5-billion-hryvnia (over $51 mln) loan from Ukrgasbank to acquire nuclear fuel from Westinghouse in 2022.

"This loan will make it possible to increase acquisitions of U.S. fuel and to maintain the effective functioning of power generating units at Ukraine's nuclear power plants (NPP) after they stopped using Russian nuclear fuel," the Ukrainian media said, citing Energoatom.

Energoatom is the operator of all four functioning NPPs in Ukraine - the Zaporizhzhya, South Ukraine, Rivne, and Khmelnytskyi NPPs. The company operates 15 power units equipped with hydropower reactors with a total installed electrical capacity of 13.8 GW.
