EAEU should pool efforts towards financial stabilization, barrier-free functioning of domestic market - Kyrgyz president

BISHKEK. May 27 (Interfax) - The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) needs to prove its relevance despite artificial hindrances, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said.

"Once again, we need to prove to the world that, despite the existence of artificial hindrances, the Union can keep on working. As a member of the Union, Kyrgyzstan calls for the development of the entire integration association and its constituent members," Japarov said at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on Friday.

The efforts of EAEU member states should aim "to support and assist one another," he said.

"We need to pool efforts to attain financial stability amid global instability. We also need to ensure the barrier-free functioning of the domestic market, localize production to lower our dependence on imports, and develop transport and logistics infrastructures together," Japarov said.

EAEU members "should think about updating the development strategy under current conditions," he said.

"The development of Eurasian integration is linked to exports to third countries and establishment of trade relations with due account of the activity shift to the Asian region. We should be more active in developing trade and economic cooperation with countries of Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. We favor the establishment of a free trade area with Indonesia," Japarov said.

"Kyrgyzstan fully supports the use of national currencies in mutual settlements," he said.
