Ukraine receives $100 mln soft loan from Japan - Finance Ministry

KYIV. May 25 (Interfax) - Ukraine has received a $100-million soft loan from the JICA Japanese agency; the 30-year loan with 1% annual interest has a ten-year grace period, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry said.

"On May 24, 2022, Ukraine withdrew 13 billion yen ($100 million) under the loan agreement recently signed by Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and JICA President Dr. Akihito Tanaka. The agreement is the first part of the approved financial assistance deal between Ukraine and Japan," the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the funds will go to the state budget to finance essential needs, including support to disadvantaged groups of the Ukrainian population, priority social and humanitarian expenses, and healthcare.
