Search ongoing in house of Moldovan ex-President Dodon

CHISINAU. May 24 (Interfax) - The Information and Security Service of Moldova together with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is carrying out a search in the house of former Moldovan President and Honorary Chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon, spokesperson for the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office Mariana Cherpec said.

Searches will also be conducted in other locations on Tuesday, Cherpec said. The searches are taking place as part of a case which centers on 2019 video footage from the office of the Democratic Party. The video shows then Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc passing a plastic bag, which they called "a parcel", to Dodon. The bag is believed to have contained cash. It becomes clear from Plahotniuc's conversation with Dodon that the money received by Dodon from Plahotniuc was intended to finance the Party of Socialists.

Acting Moldovan Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu last week ordered the resumption of the inquiry into the 2019 events. Robu overturned an instruction issued by suspended Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo, who refused to open a criminal case in May 2020, citing a lack of evidence.
