Heinrich Boell Foundation int'l NGO declared undesirable in Russia - Prosecutor General's Office

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office had adopted a decision to designate the German-based international non-governmental organization (NGO) Heinrich Boell Foundation as undesirable in Russia.

"Following an analysis of the submitted materials, a decision was adopted to designate the activities of the international non-governmental organization Heinrich-Boell-Stiftung e.V. (Heinrich Boell Stiftung) as undesirable within the territory of the Russian Federation," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

The foundation's activities "pose a threat to the constitutional system and security of the Russian Federation," it said.

"Information about the adopted decision has been forwarded to the Justice Ministry of Russia in order to add the relevant information to the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations whose activities have been designated as undesirable within the territory of the Russian Federation and to make it public," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

The Heinrich Boell Foundation has become the 56th foreign NGO declared unwelcome in Russia.

The Heinrich Boell Foundation specializes in projects related to civil society development, political education, social and political activity and responsibility, human rights, international dialogue, and ecology.

On April 8, at the behest of the Russian Justice Ministry, the foundation's branch in Russia was excluded from the register of branches and offices of international organizations and foreign NGOs.
