Tajik, Russian representatives discuss issues associated with accident-free operation of energy systems in Central Asia

DUSHANBE. May 23 (Interfax) - Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda and Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov discussed bilateral cooperation in the sphere of energy, the national news agency Khovar said on Monday.

The Russian delegation led by Shulginov is in Dushanbe on a working visit to attend the 6th International Congress and Exhibition Hydropower Central Asia and Caspian 2022, which will be held in the capital of Tajikistan on May 25-27.

"The sides discussed the issue of Russia's participation in the Central Asian Electric Power Coordination Council as a full-fledged member. In addition, Tajik Energy and Water Resources Minister Daler Juma discussed with Shulginov the work of the joint venture

Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant and issues relating to accident-free operation of energy systems in Central Asia," the report said.

The Russian-Tajik joint venture Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant was formed on February 16, 2005 to complete its construction and for further operation of a hydroelectric power plant on the Vakhsh river in Tajikistan. The share of the companies from the Russian Federation in the charter capital of the Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant is 75% minus one share, and Tajikistan's share is 25% plus one share.

The plant is located in the Danghara district of the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, 110 km south of the country's capital Dushanbe, and is included in the zone of the South Tajikistan territorial production facility with centers in the cities of Kurgan-Tyube and Danghara. The Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power produces up to 12% of the total electrical power produced in Tajikistan.

The supply of electrical power from the Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power in 2021 reached 2,206,079 kW h, which is 23.13 million kW h, or 1.1% less than in 2020. The capacities installed are being used to 37.8% of the total.

The average payment level since the start of 2021 by Barqi Tojik OSHC does not exceed 38% of the cost of the electrical power supplied, which is the lowest indicator in the entire history of the operation of the hydropower plant. In 2021, the debt of Barqi Tojik OSHC to Sangtda-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant increased by another 496 million somoni (2.3 billion rubles), reaching 2.1 billion somoni (9.82 billion rubles) as of the start of this year.
