Zelensky thanks Biden for signing bill on additional assistance to Ukraine

KYIV. May 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden for signing the bill on additional assistance to Ukraine nearing $40 billion.

"Grateful to President of the United States Joe Biden for signing the law on additional support for Ukraine," Zelensky said on Twitter on Saturday.

The bill allocating $40 billion to Ukraine with the approval of the U.S. Congress has been signed by Biden into law.

The president signed HR7691 bill into law on Saturday, May 21, 2022, the White House said.

The bill envisages additional financial assistance to Ukraine in 2022, which will be provided via U.S. federal agencies to react to the Ukraine situation and to help the people of Ukraine, it said.

The U.S. Senate approved the $39.8-billion assistance package for Ukraine by 86 votes for and 11 against on Thursday.

The House of Representatives approved the bill by 368 votes for and 57 votes against on Tuesday.
