EIB allots Eur4 bln to support EU members taking in Ukrainian refugees

KYIV. May 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) has opened a Eur4-billion credit line to support EU members taking in Ukrainian refugees, the EIB said in a statement on its website on Thursday.

"The Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved [on May 18] a Eur4 billion credit line (or program loan) to help national authorities, cities, regions and local communities in all EU Member States address urgent investment needs and help welcome and integrate people fleeing the war against Ukraine," the statement said.

Financial assistance will be supplemented with free consultations.

"The EIB credit line follows the pledge announced by EIB President Werner Hoyer on 9 April 2022 in Warsaw at "Stand Up for Ukraine", a global pledging campaign for Ukraine and its refugees [...] organized by the European Commission and Canada in partnership with Global Citizen," the statement said.
