Ukraine exports over 600,000 tonnes of grain since beginning of May

KYIV. May 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine exported 643,000 tonnes of grain from May 1 to May 19, accelerating the pace of export: 344,000 tonnes of grain were delivered to foreign markets in the week from May 12 to May 19, as compared to 299,000 tonnes on May 1-12.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said on its website on Thursday that the pace of grain exports in the beginning of May 2022 was 2.8 times lower than in the same period of last year, when 1.8 million tonnes of grain were exported on May 1-19, 2021.

The ministry has explained the decline with the blockade of Ukrainian seaports, which are the country's key export infrastructure.

The increase was due to the record large harvest this marketing year and the high intensity of exports until February 24.

Since the beginning of the 2021/2022 marketing year and as of May 19, Ukraine has exported 18.54 million tonnes wheat, an 18.7% rise as compared to the results on the same date of the 2020/2021 marketing year, 21.83 million tonnes of corn (+6.9%), 5.68 million tonnes of barley (+37.2%), and 70,600 tonnes of flour (-35.7%).
