UK imposes sanctions on Aeroflot, Ural Airlines, Rossiya Airlines

LONDON. May 19 (Interfax) - The UK imposed sanctions on three Russian air carriers, namely Aeroflot, Rossiya Airlines and Ural Airlines, on Thursday.

According to the British Treasury, the restrictive measures envisage a freeze on the airlines' assets.

For its part, the British Foreign Office said that the sanctions would deprive the Russian airlines of potential revenue totaling 50 million pounds.

"The UK Government has announced today that it is introducing new sanctions against the Russian airline sector. State-owned Aeroflot, Russia's largest airline, Ural Airlines and Rossiya Airlines will now be unable to sell their unused, lucrative landing slots at UK airports - preventing Russia from cashing in on an estimated £50 million," the Foreign Office said in a statement on Thursday.
